Assistive Technology
Assistive technology offers people with disabilities increased independence in the areas of computer access, communication and access to everyday appliances at school, home and work. The implementation of appropriate assistive technology for an individual can significantly impact quality of life.The CP Tech Assistive Technology service provides information, advice and support regarding assistive technology options for people with disabilities. The team is staffed by speech pathologists, occupational therapists and specialist technicians with a high level of expertise in assistive technology. The team is committed to helping people with disabilities and special needs achieve their goals through assistive technology. The team aims to provide a holistic and integrated approach to finding customised solutions through:
- Individual assessment of equipment needs and recommendations for appropriate equipment options
- Trial of recommended equipment
- Training of clients, families, and other support people
- Independent advice to help clients make informed decisions
- Consultation to therapists, schools, employers, and other involved agencies
- Links to community services both locally and nationally
The Assistive Technology team assists clients and their families to find a workable solution in areas such as:
- Communication technology (AAC)
- Access to computers, technology and the environment
- Integrated controls
As part of this process we liaise closely with suppliers of assistive technology options throughout Australia to source the most appropriate equipment in meeting the needs of individual clients.
CP Tech does not guarantee the quality and suitability of the equipment provided by these suppliers. A client assessment is required for each individual piece of equipment by a qualified therapist.
